2004

February

Australian Henley (Melbourne)

Black Sheep Entry: After a great trip in 2002, and an incredible performance (in the bar!) we've been invited back to perform in the senior events

Details: To be decided. Let Dom or Sheepy know if you can make the trip - 2 weeks was just right last year.

March 6th

Women's Head, Putney

Black Sheep Entry: New territory for the flock - we're still hoping to get a full crew of women out in the club's flagship boat - Missing Ewe

Details: The race is a leisurely 1530 start unless people are overcome with the need to have an outing beforehand! If you're suitably talented (in a boat!) - get in touch.

March 20th

Head of the River Race, Putney

Black Sheep Entry: Hopefull back to an entry of 2 eights

Details: Usual meeting in Putney for the warm-up row down to the start. Another reasonable start (1530) so provisional meeting time will be 1100 outside IC boathouse. Race followed by the post-race piss-up at the Dukes Head/Thames RC/London RC!

March 21st

Veterans' Head, Putney

Black Sheep Entry: Having competed for the last two years, just outside the top 10, another Vet A entry again probably - its an excellent hangover cure!

Details: It'll be an earlyish start so watch this space for details.

April (TBC)

Trinity Regatta, Dublin

Black Sheep Entry: We usually enter at least an eight, possibly also small boats.

Details: The past three years we have flown out on the Friday morning and returned on the Sunday, though we may book a Monday flight home to give us a chance to make the most of the hospitality! Book the Friday and Monday off work!

May (TBC)

Peterborough Regatta (Henley warm-up!)

Black Sheep Entry: The usual pre-Henley gathering - probably entering Senior 1 and Elite Eights.

Details:Probably meet up mid-morning for lunchtime and afternoon races. There's usually a chance to get an outing in on the river as well.

June (TBC)

Henley Women's Regatta

Black Sheep Entry: After our first appearance in 1999, we're hoping for another showing in Club Eights.

Details: Ideally there'll be an opportunity to get an outing in on an earlier weekend (including Peterborough). Otherwise certainly a Friday night outing will be on the cards.

June 25th

Henley Qualifiers

Black Sheep Entry: Our good record in the Thames Cup will mean at least one eights entry but no entry is guaranteed so expect to have to do it the hard way!

Details: The usual plan is to get out for a couple of outings during the weekends of June, usually in Cambridge and then Henley (during WHR weekend). Though, the Thursday night has been the primary preparation for the 'B' crew over the past few years!

June 30th to July 4th

Henley Royal Regatta

Black Sheep Entry: Planning to enter at least one eight in the Thames Cup. Other boats will depend on people being able to get together to train.

Details: Highlight of the year - Thursday and Friday nights in the Row Barge are a must! Oh, and there's a small matter of the rowing! Ideally leave time on the Monday and Tuesday as well as the previous weekend to get outings in. Hopefully there'll be another Wednesday lunchtime picnic after the great turnout of the past three years (not least due to the generous donation of our sponsor's products)!

August (TBC)

Gloucester/Bristol/Ross Weekend

Black Sheep Entry: Anything and everything! We've had Senior 2, Senior 1 and Elite men's eights for the past few years, plus mixed eights at Ross and hopefully we'll have a women's eight again this year.

Details: For maximum pot-winning potential we've been to all 3 regattas, meeting first during the morning at Gloucester. We've been pretty successful at Bristol but the camping (and drinking) is at Ross. There's a strong tradition in boat races and mixed eights to maintain!

September (TBC)

Annual Dinner

After the huge turnout of the Olympic Celebration Dinner in 2001, a lull in numbers last year meant we had to resort to holding Dinner down the local pub! Hoping to re-establish ourselves in our rightful home (the Brewery) so please get in touch and boost the numbers.

October (TBC)

Head of the Charles, Boston

Black Sheep entry: After last year's 6th place in Club Eights (& the top 5 finishers in the previous year ineligible for the event, we will have a great start position and chance for a medal. We have a great record in the event with 1999 & 2000's venture into Championship Eights and 2002's commendable performance in Championship Fours.

Details: Over the past few years we've flown out on the Tuesday and back on the Monday. Book the time off now - it's definitely worth the trip!

Let Dom (dom@blacksheepsportingclub.co.uk)

or Sheepy (sheepy@blacksheepsportingclub.co.uk) know as soon as possible if you're interested in any of the events.

We're also looking at more international events at venues in Amsterdam, Seattle, South Africa and Germany, so let us know if you're up for it and we'll see what we can arrange.
